US-led trooper killed in S Afghanistan

At least one US-led trooper has been killed in an explosion in the troubled southern Afghanistan, Press TVhas reported.
The recent fatality was caused as a result of a bomb blast on Sunday. Further details regarding the nationality of the slain trooper or the exact location of the incident have not been released.

According to the independent websiteiCasualties.org, over 380 foreign troopers, mostly US personnel, have lost their lives in Afghanistan in 2012.

Increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the United States and other members of the Western military alliance of NATO, undermining public support for the US-led war.

A total of 566 US-led forces died in Afghanistan in 2011. However, 2010 remains the deadliest year for foreign forces, recording a death toll of 711.

The US-led invasion of Afghanistan was launched in 2001. The attack removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity rages on across the country, despite the current presence there of thousands of foreign troopers.

The US-led war in Afghanistan, which has caused record-high civilian and military casualties, has become the longest military conflict in the American history.
