Several killed in Afghanistan attacks

Separate militant attacks and violent incidents have killed several people in various parts of Afghanistan as the security situation continues to deteriorate in the country.

A bomb explosion has killed at least six police officers in Afghanistan’s central Ghazni Province.
A local police chief said the officers were traveling to Ghazni from a nearby district when they were hit by a roadside bomb.
Their vehicle was completely destroyed and no one survived the explosion.
Attacks on Afghan police and troops have increased in recent weeks.
This comes as a militant has opened fire inside the Defense Ministry in the capital Kabul, killing and injuring an unspecified number of people.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility, saying multiple bombers were involved in the attack. The group added that the visiting French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet was the target.
However, French officials say the minister was not inside the ministry at the time of the attack.
The militant, who was reportedly wearing an Afghan army uniform, opened fire on soldiers and was killed in the following shootout.
Violence also erupted during a protest against the presence of US-led troops in the country’s troubled north.
At least one person was killed and over a dozen others were wounded in clashes between protesters and security forces in Parwan Province.
Police say the clashes broke out after armed men in the crowd started shooting.
Protesters were angry at the arrest of three religious leaders by NATO forces on Sunday.
Resentment has been building in Afghanistan against US-led forces for years.
Afghans blame NATO troops for killing and mistreating civilians.
The security situation has been steadily deteriorating in Afghanistan despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign troops in the country.
NATO has admitted that militancy has increased in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion.
