RAMALLAH, (PIC)– Unrest engulfed Ramallah Monday after Al-Jazeera TV had released incriminating documents that angered Fatah leaders.
The documents exposed Palestinian negotiators who forfeited over the past two decades an unprecedented amount of Palestinian land and rights.
West Bank security officials have gone on a state of alert in preparation of expected clashes.
Fatah leaders are inciting against the Jazeera channel and threatening its Ramallah headquarters. Fatah spokesmen released statements accusing the news outlet of sedition.
The office has since been threatened with arson and the local crew with arrest.
Hamas, Qatar and Sheikh Yusuf al-Qardawi have also been targeted with incitement in a quick response to the scandal.
Meanwhile, PA security agencies met in Ramallah to discuss conditions on the ground. They are taking into consideration possibilities of popular uprisings against the authority.
High-profile officials talked about expected scenarios that could take place.
Observers expect the thousands of pages of documents will carry dangerous consequences. Instructions have been issued to prepare for popular rallies in the West Bank.
Palestinian resistance forces say the secret documents are a “serious contravention of national standards, and an unacceptable national fall.”
“Our religious and historic right in Palestine is all of Palestine. Everyone who forfeits a grain of soil has left the national front, his religion and his people,” said the Popular Resistance Movement in Gaza.
“Abbas and those around him only represent themselves. They are not entitled to negotiate over the homeland on behalf of the Palestinians,” it said.
In another development, eyewitnesses and Al-Jazeera staffers in Ramallah said that a number of youths tried on Monday to break into the offices of the TV channel.
Doezens of youths gathered in central Ramallah to protest the channel’s release of secret documents on negotiations between the PA in Ramallah and Israel in which the PA offered unprecedented concessions.
