KHORASAN- The dismissal of Mawlana Muhammad Fadheli, khateeb of Sunnis in Taybad caused clashes between Sunnis and the Iranian security forces on Friday 21 January, the incident took place before the prayers at the grand mosque of the Sunni Muslims in Taybad , northeast of Iran.

According to credible sources, demonstrating against the illegal order of the Intelligence Ministry thousands of people gathered in the grand mosque of Taybad. Demonstrators condemned the official decision; they were chanting: “Down with the hypocrite” and “Either Fadheli or death”; some years ago the elders of the city including other people had selected the eminent scholar Shaikh Fadheli as a khateeb and imam of Taybad’s Sunnis but last Sunday the Intelligence officials forced him to resign.
The security authorities had put up some cameras inside the grand mosque and two members of the Intelligence Ministry were monitoring worshipers from the mosque’s room; Sunni worshipers pulled out the cameras slabbing them, the members of Intelligence Ministry were thrashed badly by the people.
Reports add that the infuriate crowd scared away the security forces from the surrounding of mosque as well as a vehicle of Intelligence Ministry was torched near to Ahnaf mosque.
Finally the security officials compelled to retreat, they called the dismissed khateeb Mawlana Muhammad Fadheli to calm down the people and lead Jum’ah prayers.
The local sources urged that after prayers when situation was restful, the security authorities imposed curfew in the city; they abducted many persons, mostly Sunni young, yet there is no more information about their condition.
