US airstrike kills 8 Afghan civilians

At least eight Afghan civilians are killed in a US air strike in the south of the country amid growing public discontent over the ever-growing number of civilian casualties.

The US airstrike took place in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province on Friday, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The Afghan civilians were killed when foreign forces targeted a house in the suburbs of Lashgargah city.
The attack comes only a day after US troops stormed a house in Wardak Province, killing three brothers and detaining their father.
Anger and frustration has been mounting among Afghans over the deaths of civilians at the hand of US forces.
The UN has put the number of civilian casualties at nearly 1,300 so far this year. It blames a quarter of the deaths on foreign troops.
Civilians have been the main victims of violence in Afghanistan, particularly in the country’s troubled southern and eastern provinces, where they are killed by both militant and foreign fire.
The issue of civilian casualties has long been a source of friction between Kabul and Washington.
