Deadly blasts rock Iraqi capital

A series of explosions have rocked the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, killing at least one policeman and wounding dozens others, according to police.

A roadside bomb blast near a police patrol left a policeman dead and three civilians and two policemen wounded in the west of the capital, AFP reported.
Six more people, including two soldiers, were injured by a bomb targeting an army patrol in Khadra.
In the north Baghdad area of Aden, a roadside bomb wounded two policemen and 13 civilians.
Meanwhile, a Press TV correspondent had earlier reported that an explosion was heard in Baghdad’s northern district of Azamiah.
Iraq has been under daily attacks and bombings since the United States and its western allies invaded the country in 2003.
Countless number of civilians have been killed and injured and forced to flee their homes to save their lives.
Last week, the Iraqi government said that during July, a total of 535 Iraqi people, 396 of them civilians, were killed and over 1,043 people were wounded in attacks across the country.
The death toll for July 2010 was the highest since May 2008.
