{"id":3686,"date":"2014-06-11T06:02:21","date_gmt":"2014-06-11T06:02:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3686"},"modified":"2014-06-11T06:02:21","modified_gmt":"2014-06-11T06:02:21","slug":"fourth-kenyan-muslim-scholar-shot-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/06\/11\/3686\/","title":{"rendered":"Fourth Kenyan Muslim Scholar Shot Dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/muslim-Scholar-Shot-Dead.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" \/>A Kenyan Muslim preacher was shot dead near a mosque in Kenya\u2019s coast city of Mombasa on his way to attend Fajr prayer on Tuesday, June 10, joining other Muslim scholars who have been killed recently by unknown assailants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;He died on his way to hospital,&#8221; Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa told reporters, referring to Sheikh Mohammed Idris, Reuters reported.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cRight now we cannot tell who is behind the killing but we have mounted investigations.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Idris, chairman of the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), was shot dead on his way to a Mombasa mosque for morning (Fajr) prayer on Tuesday by a group of gunmen.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He had previously chaired the committee of the Masjid Mussa mosque in Mombasa, a position he left later Sheikh Aboud Rogo came to the center.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sheikh Idris is not the first Kenyan Muslim scholars to be shot dead.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Makaburi, a prominent Kenyan Muslim scholar, was killed as he left a court compound about 15 km north of the port city of Mombasa on April 1.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Imam Makaburi\u2019s death revived angry emotions among members of the religious community in the coastal area, where most of Kenya&#8217;s Muslims live, over past killings of Muslim imams.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Last October, Muslim scholar Ibrahim \u201cRogo\u201d Omar was gunned down in Mombasa.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His killing was similar to that of imam, Aboud Rogo Mohammed, who was killed in August 2012.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another unresolved murder of a Muslim preacher is that of Samir Hashim Khan who was allegedly pulled from a public bus in Mombasa in April 2012 by men who identified themselves as police officers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A few days later, Khan\u2019s badly mutilated body was found dumped, several hundred kilometers away in a wildlife park.
