Assassination of Political Activists, a Big Crime

Criticizing the recent assassinations which have taken place for some journalists and political, social and human rights activists, including Karima Baloch who lost her life in Canada, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid called such killings a big inhuman crime and against the law, tradition and Islamic Shari’ah.

Addressing worshipers before the Friday prayers in Zahedan, Iranian Balochistan on December 25, 2020, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader said: “One of the incidents that has hurt feelings of free people in recent weeks is the killing of political, social and human rights activists and journalists.”

“Recently, several journalists and human rights activists were assassinated in the world including in Afghanistan, and one of the Baloch political activists, Karima Baloch, was assassinated in Canada,” said the Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan.

President of Darululoom Zahedan continued: “Killing political, civil society and human rights activists, journalists, writers and those who strive for freedom and defend the rights of their people and nations is considered a big crime.”

He continued: “Anyone who has a political view and criticizes or writes, even if his words are harsh and insulting, should still not be killed. Those who strive for freedom and defend the rights of the people must not be murdered”.

“I am not addressing any specific country or group, but I say to the whole world that all people should speak freely and no one should be harassed and assassinated just because of his views. Killing such people is completely wrong wherever they are, and it is against the Islamic and international laws”, Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdol-Hamid urged.

“Killing a person who commits murder or robbery is another issue, but to kill a person who defends his nation and people with his pen and tongue is an inhuman act”, Imam of the Grand Makki Mosque of Zahedan pointed out.

At the end of his speech, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid emphasized: “My message to all the worlds is to let people free, whether they are Muslims or non-Muslims, or whether they are religious or non-religious; let them to say their words freely.”
