Iran's Sunnis

Meritocracy Has no Place in the Country

The most influential Iranian Sunni leader criticized the new order for employing 5000 citizens which had refused priority rights for locals.
He was talking to tens of thousands worshipers in Zahedan on 18th Jan. 2019.
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said: “Educational centers of the country have no equal standards and there is difference in educational facilities in provinces. Sistan-Balochistan is a deprived province whose graduates cannot be equal to graduates of the capital and other well-developed provinces.”
“The Administrative Justice Court has asked the employing bureau to make employments national not provincial; it is an unjust viewpoint,” he added more.
President of Darululoom Zahedan criticized weak presence of Sunnis in different bureaus and said: “Unfortunately there are very less number of Sunni employees in different bureaus in the country. For example, there is an office in Zahedan with 70 employees while only 4 or 5 of them Sunnis; however Sunnis constitute 70% of the population in Zahedan.”
“Apart from Zahedan, in other cities and counties of Sistan-Baluchistan where Sunnis are in majority we have fewer complaints in employments, but in the center of the province at least half of employees should be from the Sunni community,” he urged.
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid further said: “Shia and Sunni citizens are brothers and we like our Shia brothers. But it is our legal due right and we defend our rights. Justice can be implemented by bringing balance in employments.”
He pointed out to the importance of meritocracy and said: “Unfortunately meritocracy, justice and equality have not been considered in the government and state. I believe the slogan of meritocracy has no place and meaning in the country. Meritocracy means there should not be any difference among capable of all races and ethnic and religious communities.”
The prominent Sunni scholar asked authorities and higher officials to meditate in this regards and pay attention to demands of different sects, sympathetic and opponents who belong to the Iranian nation.
At the end of his speech, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid advised fuel-sellers and smugglers to drive cautiously and avoid from creating troubles and dangers for themselves and other people on roads.
He also asked officials to make main roads highways as soon as possible to decrease the number of road accidents.
