Indian forces on Saturday killed eleven Kashmiris, including Sabzar Ahmad Bhat the successor of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
Sources and villagers in Saimaoh Tral said Sabzar, a freedom fighter who commanded the Kashmiri youth, along with his two associates were first arrested on Saturday night and then killed in custody.
In the crackdown, eight freedom fighters were killed in Rampur and Uri areas of district Baramulla and three others, including Sabzar, in village Saimaoh Tral Pulwama district of IOK. People in Tral and Pulwama who were protesting against rising Indian state terrorism were dispersed by pellets and tear-gas shells.
President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Masood Khan, Speaker Shah Ghulam Qadir and Opposition leader in AJK Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen condemned the killings as “brutal and inhumane”.
“World community should take notice of Indian state terrorism in IOK where youth are being killed in custody,” the president said.
Opposition leader Yaseen said the Foreign Office should take the issue with global human rights organisations and expose the real face of the so-called largest democracy of the world. Speaker AJK assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir in his statement appealed to the European Union and United Nations to take stern action against the fresh wave of Indian state brutality in the held valley ahead of Ramazan.
“Kashmiris have been fighting for their basic rights since under the charter of United Nations that has clearly accepted the Kashmiris right of self-determination. Indian forces custodial killings would not break the commitment of the Kashmiri people with the ongoing liberation struggle,” Speaker Qadir added.
