An Islamic center in the Swedish city of Gothenburg came under arson attack early on Tuesday, according to local police sources.
The fire severely damaged the Kungalv Islamic Cultural Center in western Sweden. Until recently the building had been used by the Union of European Turkish Democrats (UETD).
Firefighters later brought the blaze under control, the sources added.
Harun Uzel, UETD chairman, said the building had been the organization’s Gothenburg office until two months ago.
“We moved to another place … after receiving threats and physical attacks,” Uzel said.
He added some people believed the building was still being used by the Turkish groups and the attacks had continued.
