Thousands made their way to Karachi’s AKD Ground on Thursday to attend the funeral prayers of singer-turned-evangelist Junaid Jamshed, who died in the ill-fated PK-661 plane crash earlier this month.
Jamshed was laid to rest at Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi in Korangi Industrial Area.
Renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel led the funeral prayers in DHA’s Phase-VIII which were held amidst tight security as senior armed forces personnel, politicians, celebrities and sportsmen attended the funeral.
The body of Jamshed’s wife, Nayha, who also died in the air crash was transported to Lahore for funeral prayers, DawnNews reported.
She was laid to rest at Lahore’s Cavalry Ground graveyard, according to television reports.
Jamshed’s remains arrived in Karachi on Wednesday from Islamabad on board a C-130 plane. His remains were identified on Monday with the help of dental and facial x-rays, DawnNews earlier reported.
PIA flight PK-661 carrying 48 passengers and crew crashed near Havelian on the way to Islamabad from Chitral last week, killing all on board.
