Sunnis in Tehran banned from own Eid prayers

For another time, the Sunni residents of Tehran, the Iranian capital, have been banned from establishing own Eid prayers on Eid al-Adha day, celebrated on Oct. 16, 2013 in Iran.

A local website, Eslah Web, has reported Tehran Police deployed their personnel around two central prayer rooms of the Sunni community in Tehran, Sadeqiyeh and Saadatabad, to prevent Sunni worshippers from entering houses they rent for religious ceremonies.

Despite the diligent efforts of some Sunni social activists, former and present Sunni MPs, the authorities banned the worshippers to offer Eid al-Adha prayers in some areas of Tehran.

Sunni activists expressed their regret over the incident as the authorities had promised to facilitate religious gatherings of Sunnis after a ban on Sunnis’ Eid prayers on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, 70 days ago. It is almost the fourth year most of the Sunnis in Tehran can’t establish separate and own Eid prayers.
