The interior of the mosque went up in flames, causing heavy damage. Holy books inside the mosque were burned.
Village residents have declared a strike in all institutions and schools to protest the act.
Some 300 locals marched to nearby Jewish settlement town of Rosh Pina and fell into clashes with Israeli occupation forces.
A force of Israeli police have arrived in the village to begin investigating and have decided to raise the level of the state of alert declared in the area.
Kamal al-Khatib, deputy chairman of the Islamic Movement in the 1948-occupied Palestinian territories, held the Israeli government responsible for the terror attack, saying that the occupation government affirms its “hostility to Islam day and night”, citing as an example Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the UN General Assembly two weeks ago.
He also blamed religious rulings issued by extremist rabbis in nearby Safed city, saying the Tuba mosque arson came in the aftermath of that racial incitement.
