Tehran: Sunni MPs ask Ahmadinejad to follow up Eid prayers case

TEHRAN: Following the issuance of an illegal order to halt Sunnis in Tehran from establishment of Eid prayers, Sunni members of the Iranian Parliament asked president Ahmadinejad to follow up the case.

A Tehran-based Sunni web portal “Islah Web” reported that recently an order has been issued by the provincial authorities of Tehran that forbids Sunni community to offer Eid prayers in Tehran. As Sunni MPs wrote a letter to the Iranian president Mahamoud Ahmadinejad to provide the Sunni community in the capital to establish Eid prayers and inform the provincial authorities in this regard as well.

The text of the letter has been sent to the secretary of Taqreeb al-Madhaahib and the advisor to the president for Sunnis’ affairs which is proved by the signature of the following Sunni representatives in Majlis Shura (Parliament):

1.    Eqbal Muhammadi, representative of Mariwan and Sarwabad
2.    Jalal Mahmoudzadeh, representative of Mahabad
3.    Muhammad Ali Partowi, representative of Sardasht & Piranshahr
4.    Muhammad Qaseem Othmani from Bookan
5.    Fakhruddin Haidari, representative of Saqez & Baneh
6.    Ameen Sha’bani, representative of Sanandaj, Diwandarre, Kamyaran
7.    Abdul Jabbar Karami, representative of Sanandaj, Diwandarre, Kamyaran

12.    Hameed Reza Pashang, from Khash
13.    Yaqoub Jadgal, from Chabahar
14.    Abdullah Rastegar, from Gonbad Kawous

It is worthy to mention that Sunni Muslims of Tehran do not have a single mosque in Tehran; they offer prayers with congregation in some renting houses. Last year, also the security police of Tehran forbad Sunnis by force and threat to establish Eid and Friday prayers.
