Wife Should be Treated Gently with Compassion

Khateeb of Ahl-us-Sunnah in Zahedan, Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdul Hameed (may Allah protect him) talked over the importance of spouses’ mutual rights on Friday, 17th June 2011.

After recitation of the verse:”
[And live with them reputably if ye detest them, belike ye detest a thing and yet Allah hath placed therein abundant good.], he said that the holy Qur’an enlightened the importance of people’s rights and their peaceful life among each others. ‘We live in our routine life with folks, most of them our parents, children, siblings and spouse. As much relationship is nearer, the greatness of the rights goes higher,’ he stated.

Khateeb of the grand Makki masjid of Zahedan declared the rights of married couples one of the greatest and most important rights according to the Qur’an and Sunnah. Thus, the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) chose some verses of the Qur’an for ‘khutbah of Nikah’ (those scholars who read Nikah) which begin with orders to be pious and have taqwa. Spouses live a mutual life; they must take care of each other’s rights.

‘Spouses should conceive each other a blessing and gift from Allah Almighty; husband should respect his wife and fulfill his duties regarding his wife and common life. A wife should care and serve her husband as well. Once Hadhrat Muaadh (may Allah be pleased with him) returned from Sham (Syria) and prostrated for the holy prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam); he was asked about the reason, Muaadh replied that he had found people in Sham prostrating for their religious leaders and bishops. Holy prophet (peace be upon him) said, do not do like this; if I wanted somebody to prostrate someone apart of Allah, I would have ordered wives to prostrate husband,’ Shaikh added.

The eminent Sunni A’lim emphasized that prostration (Sujoud) is not allowed for anyone but Allah. As well as genuflection (Rukoo) is specific for Allah. Worshipful prostration was not allowed in any religions in past.

The rector of Darululoom Zahedan continued saying that a husband should have mercy on his wife and be soft with her. Husband gets rewards through spending life for his wife and children. The prophet (Alaihissalm) said that your best one is the best for his wife, and I am the best for my wives. The prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be soft with women. A wife also should know that if she satisfies her husband and does the other duties; she will be in Jannah, insha Allah. Serving husband is more important than doing all ‘Nawafil.’

Shaikh Abdul Hameed urged that dowry (Mahr) is the right of a wife on the shoulders of husband like debt. Husbands must pay it; otherwise, if any one gets martyrdom in battle without paying dowry (mahr), the gate of paradise would be closed for him.

‘People complain nowadays from each other a lot, you should remember that all the goodness and good qualities are not in an individual, Allah Almighty distributed them among your all rounding people, so be patient over some absurd habits or words of your spouse and family members,’ he pointed.

At the end, Shaikh informed that the annual ceremony of Darululoom Zahedan’s graduates will be held on Thursday, 27 Rajab (30 June 2011) in Zahedan. ‘Zahedani masses are requested to support this ceremony financially and by praying to Allah. The main target from this gathering is Allah’s volition and will, so try to take part in better holding of the country-wide ceremony,’ Shaikh concluded.
