Afghan policeman kills six US-led troops

A man wearing an Afghan police uniform has opened fire on US-led troops in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least six foreigners and wounding several others.
NATO says the incident happened during a training session and the shooter has also been killed.

“An individual in an Afghan border police uniform turned his weapon against International Security Assistance Forces during a training mission today, killing six service members in eastern Afghanistan,” a NATO statement read.
The alliance says it is investigating the attack — the worst single incident involving foreign troops in more than a month.
The nationalities of those killed have not been revealed.
Earlier this month, an Afghan soldier shot and killed three US servicemen in southern Helmand Province.
The developments come at a time when the US and its allies have stepped up a bombing campaign in troubled southern and eastern Afghanistan.
US-led foreign forces have been criticized for military operations, which have led to death and destruction in the war-torn country.
At least 667 US-led foreign forces have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year, making 2010 the deadliest year since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan nine years ago.
As the security situation continues to deteriorate in Afghanistan, US-led forces are killed by Taliban militants on a near-daily basis.
According to official figures, more than 2,100 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country.
Figures released by Afghanistan’s Baakhtar News Agency, however, put the death toll at near 4,500.
This is while NATO has admitted that militants have increased their power in Afghanistan since the 2001 US-led invasion.
US President Barack Obama had pledged a major drawdown from Afghanistan by July 2011 but US officials recently announced that American soldiers would be staying in Afghanistan for at least another four years.
