PESHAWAR – Central Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawwar Hassan has said that they can endorse the proposed 18th amendment provided the government give assurance of stopping drone attacks in the country.
Addressing the concluding session of two-day Fehm-e-Din convention at Al Markz Islami in Peshawar on Sunday, he said that there was very little hope of anything good that may occur from the 18th amendment keeping in view unemployment, price hike and above all US drone attacks that were killing people in the country.
The rules are not above law and they should not consider themselves as such, he added saying that it was only after consensus reached upon among political forces of the country that the parliament would approve the proposed amendment. He maintained that President Zardari should get an opinion from the apex court of the country if we want to validate his claim of constitutional immunity and added that PPP’s track record was showing that it was worthless to expect good from them and the NRO beneficiaries.
Munawwar Hassan urged the participants of the convention to play effective role for the reformation of the society.
“We need to follow the teachings of Quran to get the country out of the prevailing challenges and put it on the track of development,” he added. Attended by a large number of religious scholars from across the province, the convention was also addressed by provincial president of the JI Prof Mohammad Ibraheem Khan, provincial vice-presidents Maulana Mohammad Ismail, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Punjab head of the Jamaat Dr Waseem Akhtar and others.
Munawar Hassan said that the law minister was creating hurdles in implementation of the decision given by the full bench of the Supreme Court regarding the Swiss cases.
In his speech on the occasion, Prof Mohammad Ibraheem Khan said that USA and its agents are facing failure in accomplishment of their designs in the region. He said USA is suffering defeat in Afghanistan.
